Project Nerd Buddy
I took part in a focus group for Microsoft and they asked us what the typical Microsoft user looked like. I told them that I thought their typical user was someone who had the need for a full-time IT support staff.
Looks like Dell is taking that concept to the next level with Project Nerd Buddy.
The essence of the ad campaign is that you do not need to take your computer to the shop to get fixed, the repair shop will come to you. In one of their promo videos a faux-scientist touts it as the “future of technical support.”
Here is a novel concept for the PC industry: strive to make hardware and software that needs little to no support. Then you will not have to rely on cutesy tounge-in-cheek gimmicks to make people aware of how to deal with things when they are broken.
