The magic bulb?

Looks like there is a new player in the lightbulb market.

Just as LEDs were starting to come down in price, Vu1 highlights a new light technology called Electron Stimulated Luminescence (ESL) that should hit the streets late this year.

It has all the quality benefits of incandescent lights without the mercury content of CFLs and high cost of LED. Also, since they are dimmable, I might finally put my INSTEON project back on the front burner.

But how will Vu1 fair when LED’s prices go down?

    AND

Why hasn’t the RFID Tag taken off as promised?
I was at IBM at a “take you kids to work day” and they talked about EXACTLY the same things that I had heard 4+ years ago… What’s up?

According to their spec sheet (which is unproven to me personally) the ESL is dimmable, easy to recycle, not susceptible to heat, and puts off a better quality of light…

These are all areas where it beats LED, so unless it is completely cost prohibitive, it looks like a good technology.
